Certificate Distribution
29th February 2020, Cultural Activity Association
• Certificate distribution ceremony was held on the 29th of February, 2020. The entire team of Cultural Association, Cultural Committee, and clubs under the association namely Cross Vibez, Music club and Theatre clubattended the event. The event was hosted by the Joint Cultural Secretary Kavya Pillai. The directors and members were given their year completion certificate and the Cultural Secretary Rajat Mogaveera was awarded with a trophy.

NSS Residential Camp was organised by the College NSS Unit for 7 days to Gothegar Village, Asangaon, Maharashtra where the volunteers organised meetings, developed Compost Pit, restructured Library, conducted workshop on Self-defence and Yoga, Health Check-up, painted classrooms. conducted interactive learning sessions on technological and social topics and even managed to cook food for themselves from 24th December 2019 to 30th December, 2019.

• Dr. Rajalakshmi Amudan lecture series on “Opportunities in Biotechnology” supported by SIES college PSA was conducted on 21st December 2019. The purpose of this lecture series was to reach out to our alumni and to get them to inspire the current batch of students on their onward journey. Four of our alumni, Mr Mukund Shankar, Manager, Projects, Scigenics (India) Pvt. Ltd; Dr Swati Jadhav, Team leader, Advanced enzymes Ltd; Mr Rajesh Yadav, CEO and Founder of Aerobiosys Innovations Pvt Ltd and Ms Neha Pawar, Water Sanitation and Hygiene specialist (WASH) engaged in diverse careers addressed the students.

The culture of Mumbai was explored by students via skits, songs, dances etc. Mrs. Bharati Patil added a famous marathi actress graced the occassion by addressing the students. A few studets from SYBA had put up a stall of Vada Pav, which got overwhelming response.

The Commerce Association organised an online Slogan Writing Competition on “Save Environment Save Mankind” at intra-collegiate level where 16 students participated in making slogans to create awareness and sensitization among fellow students to develop love and care for the environment.

• Formals and Chocolate day was held on 12th December,2019. Students of the college dressed up in smart Formal wear and gifted chocolates to their dear ones which were purchased at the stalls set up by the team. All college students were invited to be a part of the college days by dressing up in western formals. Mr. and Ms. SIES

Mr. and Ms. SIES was a personality pageant open for all the college students. The event was conducted in the quadrangle. This year the team planned for the pageant to comprise of two rounds first a talent round and second a personality round. In the first round the participants must display their talents within the time frame of one minute. The participants are scored and shortlisted to the next round upon the judge’s discretion. In the second round the judges ask a question which can be a situation-based question where the judges give a situation and ask the participant what they would do in the said situation or a question based on their talent displayed.The event was hosted by the Joint Cultural Secretary Kavya Pillai. The judges were CA Avin Shah and Ms.Benifer Wykes.There were 35 participants and the title of Mr and Ms SIES was won by Archit Shettygar (SYJC arts) and Fareha Kazi (SYBA).

• 'In Memoriam' was a concert held as a tribute to Bharat Ratna Dr. M S Subbulakshmi. The concert had two sections, one for renowned carnatic artists and the other for the SIES students and alumni to perform. The auditions for the alumni and students was held on the 28th November2019. The judges for the eliminations were Sri Aditya Rajagopalan , Sri G.Krishnan , Dr. Lakshmi Muthukumar and Ms. Sudha B. The performers for the concert were Ms.Siddhi Krishnan and Ms. Nitya Rajendran with the accompanists Mr. Aditya Rajagopalan and Mr. S. Balasubramaniam. The chief guest was Mr Ganesh Kumar, Chairman, Fine Arts Society, Chembur.

Traditional and Rose Day was for all the college students to dress up in Indian traditional wear and gift roses to loved ones that were purchased at the stalls
set up by the team. The students dressed up in traditional wear and gifted roses to their dear ones. The team also planned for an online event called Mr. and Ms. Traditional 2019, where images submitted to the team’s official social media handle would be uploaded on the Instagram story feature and student would vote for Mr. and Ms. Traditional. All college students gathered in the quadrangle post lectures for their pictures which were submitted for the online competition.

As every year typical Maharashtrian cultural program was organized by Ms. Anuya Dharap . She organizes this every year to preserve a tradition and to make students aware that such tradition exists. Typically people sing songs, depicting the early life of females, expressing how the in laws treated them, how their life revolved around others. These were organized in the past so that females could come together and vent and express their feelings, since otherwise there was no opportunity for females to leave the house . Around 100 students including past students and 10 teachers attended the program.

Ms. Anuya Dharap organized the movie screening of the film " Chalk and Duster" to celebrate teacher's day. The movie covers various aspects of the academic life , some of them are teacher student relationship, including the communication. Students enjoyed talking about the film since it deals with their own concerns, they expressed that there was a need for these kinds of activities in the college. Approximately 70 students attended it.

Retired Major Vinay Shreekant Degaonkar shared his experiences of being in the service of Indian Army. He encouraged the students to join the Army. Listening to the first hand experience had a deeper impact on student. The program helped students realize the importance of Defense, and helped imbibe a feeling of Gratitude towards the defense. NCC, NSS and around 60 students attended the same.

• The English Association, under the Film Appreciation Society, screened its first movie, ‘Omkara’ directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, which is an Indian adaptation of Shakespeare’s Tragedy “Othello”, on 29th July 2019. Several other movies like ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’, ‘Court’, ‘Emma’, ‘Dance like a Man’, ‘Jaane bhi do Yaaro’, and ‘Under the Shadow’ were also screened which were followed by extensive discussion amid the students

Taiwanese dance workshop

Taiwanese dance workshop was conducted by Taiwanese dance performers for SIES college students to teach them about the Taiwanese culture. The event started with the trainers introducing themselves and playing a video that showed the Taiwanese dance form being performed by them and their school of dance. While the video played the trainers took turns in explaining the different dance positions, their importance and meaning to the students and professors This was followed by a warmup session that invited the students and interested professors to do some stretching exercises prior to the dance session.

This was a cultural program to celebrate the occasion of Aashadi Ekadashi. Shree Vikas Gokhale delivered a 'Pravachan (speech typically related to God)' he extensively spoke about the ' Ahankara- An Enemy' . He spoke about a very important topic, giving simple examples. He rightly pointed out that the Ahankara was always punished if any of the religious text was consulted.
A few teachers also participated enthusiastically singing various Abhangas (devotional songs). Around 60 students attended the program.
