Economics Department, established in 196O, is one of the oldest departments of the college. The department undertakes courses in Economics for the Arts, Commerce & science streams. As part of the New Education Policy 2020, the department offers wide range of quantitative and skill-based papers to equip students with vocational and data management skills. Our courses empower students with adequate tools for economic analysis. Apart from core economics papers, several applied papers in areas of development economics, financial economics, international economics, and environmental economics, econometrics, and research methodology are also offered by the department. The department credits to itself alumni in academics, corporate sector and research.

The department has an active MOU with PARC (Policy Advocacy Research Centre). It actively engages in talks, guest lectures and workshops conducted by MDAE (Meghnad Desai Academy of Economics). Studentsalso get the benefit of courses/internship provided by NPTL(IIT), Coursera and intern Shala.
Economics Association-
A very vibrant Association run by students under faculty guidance to take learning beyond classroom walls. Association activities are programmed, supervised, and executed by student’s representatives elected democratically through voting. Association regularly conducts activities like debates, quizzes, guest talks, A D Shroff Elocution competition, alumni interaction, seminars, Industrial and field visits. The department has an annual newsletter "Caveat Venditor” managed by student editors.
